Groceries Reveal Easing of Crisis

In official statistics and influential surveys, there have been signs that the worst of the recession may be over, and that is reflected in the all-important baked bean sales figures.

In the three months from April to June, baked bean sales were up 15% compared with the same quarter of 2008, according to figures prepared for the BBC by the market researchers Nielsen.
That sounds impressive, but it shows a slowing in the rate of growth. Every month from November 2008 to May 2009, sales of baked beans grew by about 20%. Then the brakes were suddenly put on, with growth of only 9.9% in June and 8.7% in July

In the three months from April to June, baked bean sales were up 15% compared with the same quarter of 2008, according to figures prepared for the BBC by the market researchers Nielsen.

Sales of supermarket budget lines showed the same slowing of growth, with 18.5% growth between April and June. Sales of budget lines had grown by more than 24% each month from September 2008 compared with the same month the previous year, but then tailed off from April, and only grew 10.5% in July.

Both baked beans and budget lines are what economists describe as inferior goods, because people tend to buy more of them when they have less money. So a slowing in the growth of their sales may be seen as a sign that people think the recession is easing. The opposite appears to be true of organic food, sales of which have been in a fairly steady decline since the start of the recession. They fell again, by 12.9% between April and June compared with the same period last year. Olive oil sales have been jumping about throughout the recession, being seen, on the one hand, as a luxury product for which there are cheaper alternatives. But on the other hand, it has benefited from people cooking at home more - and so being prepared to spend a little extra on ingredients.

There is another sign of potential recovery in sales of emulsion paint, which are seen as a good indicator of the state of the DIY market as well as the state of the housing market.
People tend to buy emulsion paint both to do up their houses before selling them and to personalize a new house if they buy one. Emulsion sales have been consistently falling for months. Between the start of 2008 and the end of March 2009, there were only two months in which more paint was sold than had been in the same month of the previous year. Then in April, sales suddenly improved, with sales in the three months from April to June rising 16.2% compared with the same quarter of 2008. "The fact that paint is growing is a very good sign because it shows that people are putting money into their houses," says Stephan Lamouroux, an expert on the DIY market at GfK (Nürnberg Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung, Germany's largest market research institute). But he warns that it does not necessarily mean that the housing market is about to take off. "There are still segments in the DIY market that are declining, such as power tools, which tend to be linked to bigger DIY projects," he says.
So it may be that people are buying paint because it is a relatively cheap way of improving your home, but are still not feeling good enough to spend money on bigger renovations.
There is some support from our unusual indicators such as baked beans; budget lines and paint, for the more conventional indicators that suggest the economy may have bottomed out.

Undeniable power of LOVE ( Father and Son )

How much can love be ?
This is the most touching and inspiring video ever...

One day, a son asks his dad "Daddy, would you like to run a marathon with me?"
The father says "yes". And they run their first marathon together.

Another time, the son asks his dad again "Daddy, would you like to run a marathon with me? The father says "yes son".

One day, the son asks his father "Daddy, would you run the Ironman with me?" The Ironman is the most difficult triathlon ever (4 kms swimming, 180 kms bikin, 42 km running?) And the dad says "yes".

The story looks simple until you watch the following clip. Just amazing, how much can love be.... ?

How bad the financial crisis is ???

Bersatu kita teguh, bercerai kita roboh.

Story of a pencil

we are like the pencils

One day, the pencil producer tells the pecils
"there are five things that you must know before I send you out into the world,
and you must always remember them in order to be the best pencil"

1. You will be able to do and achieve a lot of great things if and only if you allows yourself to be held in someone's hand.

2. You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but this is essential if you want to be a better pencil.

3. You have the ability to correct the mistakes that you might make.

4. The most important part of you will always be what's inside.

5. No matter what condition, you must continue to write. You must always leave a clear, legible mark no matter how difficult the situation.

Now, views this into yourself

1. You will be able to do many great things, but if only you allow yourself to be held in God's hand, and allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

2. You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems and plights, you will definitely need it to be a stronger person.

3. You might be able to correct mistakes. You might make or grow through them.

4. The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

5. On every surface you walk, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to serve humanity in everything.

Everyone is like the pencil, created by the power of maker
for a unique and special purpose
By understanding and remembering this
let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose
in our heart and have relationship to the mighty power, GOD, daily

Sheffield Game !!! Ga/uys splendid appointment !!!

It has been quite a while since we last met each other.
It has been quite a while since our last football game.
It has been quite a while since we last "kutuk" each other.

Here, out of the blue, all dudes decided to meet up at the sheffield game, treating a football game instead of football match as a valid reason to resume the ever disunite Ga/uY spirits.

As we all expected, our team was named as " JAC FC " for the specific reason. One of the members has his very precious asset (not to mention here), which can lead the team to a glory. Unfortunately, the key player wasn't there for the 1st and 2nd matches, thus, we didnt win... After a post-moterm session among the members, eventually we discovered the main cause which attributes the the disaster by being defeated 6-0 from the home team. The reason was, the miracle asset which can attract the attention from other team players was not there. We expected that with the power of JAC's asset, we can drive away the concentration of other team players from the ball to the "balls-like thingy"...Sad...sad....but Fun!!!

After the matches, we went to sheffield town to have a little gathering...end up, we were in PIZZA hut!!!

Before we saying goodbye...haha...cant imagine, the situation where a group of guys went "jalan-jalan" at the Sheffield night market "pasar malam"...haha

Anyway, I would say it was really nice to meet all of you guys again... Hope to see all of you again in the very near future. See you guys....real soon...!!! Yo....ROCK JAC FC !!!

Visited to the 1st Buddhist Temple in London !

The Buddhapadipa Temple is situated at 14 Calonne Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 5HJ
Wat Buddhapadipa in London was the first Buddhist temple in the United Kingdom, established by the London Buddhist Temple Foundation with the objective of creating a centre for the dissemination of theoretical and practical Buddhist teachings in Europe.
This temple has been under the Royal Patronage since 1965 when it was originally located on Christ Church Road, Richmond. It was moved to its present site in Calonne Road, Wimbledon Parkside in 1976. With the support of the Royal Thai Government and the Thai people, the Foundation erected an "Ubosot", a Thai style building for monastic ceremonies. The celebration of monastic boundary, held on October 30, 1982, enabled Wat Buddhapadipa to become a formal temple according to Thai tradition: in fact, the only Thai temple ever built in Europe.
From the start,Wat Buddhapadipa has actively promoted theoretical and practical Buddhism in London as well as in other cities of the United Kingdom and in countries such as the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It has thus become one of Europe's most important Buddhist training centres. In 1986, when the British Museum organized an exhibition "Buddhism : Art and Faith", a London newspaper even commented that there was no need to go far in order to understand Buddhism, since visits to the British Museum and Wat Buddhapadipa should suffice.
The grounds of the Temple cover a monastic area of approximately four acres in which the Uposatha Hall is situated on an ornamental lake, a small grove, flower garden and an orchard. The Temple consists of the House where the monks live and a cottage. On the ground floor of the House there is a Shrine room, a Dining room, A study, a Library, a Cloak room, an Office, a Kitchen and Telephone room. The rest of the House is the place for the monks. The Uposatha Hall or the Temple is constructed place for the traditional Thai style on the monastic area.

My 1st Valentine's Day - 2009

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day — and its patron saint — is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl — who may have been his jailor's daughter — who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial — which probably occurred around 270 A.D — others claim that the Christian church may have decided to celebrate Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to 'christianize' celebrations of the pagan Lupercalia festival. In ancient Rome, February was the official beginning of spring and was considered a time for purification. Houses were ritually cleansed by sweeping them out and then sprinkling salt and a type of wheat called spelt throughout their interiors. Lupercalia, which began at the ides of February, February 15, was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

Eventually, 14th Feb is a not unique in being unique day to me. It could be just as simple as a Monday, contrastly, it could be the most romantic moments for you and the one you love. Simple yet symbolic!!! I just celebrated my 1st Valentine's Day, and I perceive:

True Love doesn't come by

finding a perfect person;

but to see an imperfect person

as perfect !

Is sexual desire entering a recession?

Valentine's Day, by tradition, is an opportunity for declarations of love and lust. But will 2009 be different?

Given the economic downturn, is passion too in recession? Or will couples fling themselves into each other's arms to compensate for their inability to spend, spend, spend? Professor Helen Fisher, of Rutgers University, holds this latter theory. The sheer stress of money worries in general, and fear of redundancy in particular will, she argues, elevate levels of the chemical dopamine in the brain - and dopamine is associated with romantic love. "Times of stress can trigger feelings of attraction - quite simply, you're more susceptible," she said. Professor Fisher's theories are based on a classic 1974 study by Dutton and Aron - in which male subjects walking across a dangerous-seeming bridge were found to be more likely to fall for an attractive woman researcher. They are currently being reinforced by a flurry of less academic reports.

Website traffic
Dating websites eHarmony and Match.com both report major boosts in traffic of up to 20% over the past few months. A YouGov survey of 20,144 British adults in November 2008 found sex was the most popular low-cost activity. Sex toy shops as far apart as Amsterdam, New York and China are anecdotally reporting a boom in sales. And, according to Ken Herron, chief of marketing at gay dating site Manhunt, the site had its biggest membership sign-up on 29 September, the day the Dow Jones Index crashed. The logic here rings true, absolutely reflecting what I as an advice columnist am seeing in my postbag. Surely when people feel alone, they reach out for connection, seek out pleasure in the form of skin-on-skin contact?
Surely when people need relief from their financial worries they reach for the natural medication created by body contact, which releases the feel-good chemical oxytocin?

Negative impact
However, at a certain point, this logic breaks down - and the very opposite appears true.
Relate, the couples counselling organisation, is seeing in established couples a different picture from the sexfest Helen Fisher describes. Denise Knowles, Relate sex therapist, said: "Economic uncertainties can cause people to become more anxious - with the added dimension of people trying to get another job, or working longer hours to cover for a partner who has lost theirs.
"In the end, they are simply less likely to want sexual activity at the end of a long day."
In addition, the very anxiety that may be fuelling the initial desire to bond sexually may also sap the ability to experience pleasure. Self-esteem classically drops during recession, particularly for those who actively lose their jobs. Equally, respect drops for a partner who is economically less successful. Then, desire plummets along with the esteem and respect. And even if desire remains constant, ability to act on that desire may be compromised. A lack of self-confidence has often been cited as affecting male virility - the classic 'performance anxiety' - and a lack of emotional security during lovemaking as affecting female arousal.

Money and satisfaction
It is also arguable that economic reversal is affecting sexual completion too, at least for women. A recent study by Dr Thomas Pollet, of Newcastle University, suggesting that rich men give their partners more orgasms surely also implies that monetarily challenged men deliver fewer climaxes. According to Dr Pollet, money is one of the main factors determining female sexual satisfaction. Are these theories contradictory? Does the recession create lust - or sap it? Does a lack of money lead to a raising of desire - or a lowering of sexual action? One possible theory to square the circle is - to misquote the famous line from Macbeth - is that recession "provokes the desire but takes away the performance". Maybe economic woes bring us together but then make us unable to enjoy the fruits of that bonding. If so, what to do? Knowles advises clear communication: "If you are too tired for sex, tell your partner why. If you suddenly go off sex or can't perform, being open is the best policy." Communication will not solve everything, however: if the problems continue, it could be you need more specialist help. It could be then that, instead of roses and chocolates for Valentine's this year, we ought to be handing our beloved an appointment card for a therapy session. Just a thought.

Today, this dish is served as an appetizer to raise 'good luck' for the new year and is usually eaten on Renri, the seventh day of the Chinese New Year. In a celebration known as "lo hei" (Cantonese 撈起 or 捞起), families and friends gather around the table and, on cue, proceed to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying "吉祥话" (Jíxiáng Huà, auspicious wishes) out loud to mark the start of a prosperous new year and it's customary that the higher you toss, the greater your fortunes!
Typical ingredients include: fresh salmon, daikon (white radish), carrot, red pepper (capsicum), ginger, daun limau nipis (lime tree leaves), Chinese parsley, chopped peanuts, toasted sesame seeds, Chinese shrimp crackers (or fried dried shrimp), five spice powder. The dressing is made primarily from plum sauce.

I went to Ireland for a trip vacation during the last Christmas Holidays. Here are some pictures to share with my blog readers.

Ireland is really a nice place for naturalists!!! The sight-seeing in Ireland will bring you closet to the natural environment, I am pretty sure that you, a green lover will be astonished and fascinated by the picturesque scenery.
If the regular polls of departing travellers are to be believed, it's Ireland's timeless traditional side that continues to hold the key to the country’s draw as a tourist destination. At the heart of it all is the often breathtaking scenery, still gorgeous enough to make your jaw drop despite the best efforts of developers to scar some of the most beautiful bits with roundabouts, brutal suburbs and summer bungalows. From the lonely, wind-lashed wilderness of the Beara Peninsula to the awe-inspiring landscapes of County Derry, Ireland is one of the world’s most beautiful countries, and worth every effort you make to explore it. The sometimes overwhelming popularity of the scenic superstars like Connemara and Killarney National Park has seen the emergence of quieter idylls as the preferred destination of the discerning traveller, who has discovered the beauty of the lakes of County Roscommon, the villages of County Waterford and the rarely visited County Westmeath. Here you can come into contact with a more genuine Ireland, the kind removed from the slick machinery of the tourist trail. Of course, this does not mean you should miss Dublin: the pulsating capital has a soul and sociability unrivalled by any other European city.
The slow grind that resulted in the end of violence in Northern Ireland has meant that the province can finally go about showing to a much wider audience that it is just as beautiful and interesting as the rest of the island. In 2007, Lonely Planet’s Blue List put it in the world’s top 10 destinations to visit for good reason – the province has always had plenty to see, but IRA activity made the prospect of visiting a little daunting.
Given the troubled nature of its recent past, combined with all of the usual problems thrown up by any modern society, Ireland is no laid-back Utopia (that'd be boring anyway). But the fact remains that the Irish warmth and welcome is the real deal, and millions of visitors testify to the sheer ease with which they made friends here. Someone will stop and help you find your way when you’re standing on a corner gawking at a map; you will strike up a conversation if you’re sitting alone in a pub; and there is a very good chance that if you’re stuck somewhere a local will volunteer a lift to wherever you need to go. The Irish love complaining about their country – about the crappy weather, the horrible traffic, the unplanned construction, the venal corruption – and will swear to you that you’re the luckiest person on earth because you don’t have to live here, but they only do it because this is the greatest country on the planet. Make sense? Well, it does here.

This is an IQ question. All readers, please do not proceed to the answer before attempt the question. The answer is given on the page.

Question : Where should you be heading to when your tank is full.

Answer : public toilet

Pitty me so to say. During the Christmas night, the gang and me would like to send one of the dudes to his apartment. Ended up, we walked in the cold at night for about 4 and half-hours. The reason is, there were no any public transport services during the Christmas day in England. Therefore, the only reliable transport vehicle is ( coach number 11 ),it means walking. If you think that I was pitty, then plese give me a warm smile. 。。所以笑大声点吧!!!Moreover, it was 1 am when we walked him back to his apartment, this should be poorer right? So please do not hesitate to laugh. The worse case is, when we were walking on the street, the temperature was just nice, 0 celcius. 。。 。。 。。 真的气死我了!!!But do you know that, it was so cold and my tank waas fully filled at that time. Oh gosh...what a coincidence right? It was really hard to find a public toilet.

。。很便宜吧!!!What a shame I would say, it was so difficult to find a public toilet in the world busiest city, london city. It cost me to walk for more than 2 hours in order to get a public toilet. OMG...

。。 。。The fact is, there are jsut a few public WC in the city, for tourists, you are advised to bring along the napkins..hehe...

After all, the public toilets in london are all sophisticated desinged and using the high technology service. After u put in the 20p coin, the door will aotomatically open for you, once you have done with your business, the toilet bowl will be aotomatically flushed. After you came out from th WC, it will took a minute to clean up the toilet and spray some fragant before the service is pass onto the next customer. Cool right? On the other hand, eventhough Malaysia have a lot of public toilets available for the people to use, but most of them are spoiled and out of service as the result of vandalism.

p/s : To all members, please do not damage the public facilities for the sake of your love one.
